      The Answer

    • Vitamin D and sun protection is a hot topic at the moment with some very confusing messages coming out of the media and health bodiesSunlight helps your body produce Vitamin D which is important for developing and protecting strong and healthy teeth and bones. We can also get Vitamin D from certain foods including milk, fish, egg yolks, and fortified cereals.

Recent studies have shown that Vitamin D may also help to protect our bodies from many cancers, such as colon, prostate, breast, ovarian, pancreatic and digestive track cancers. However sunburn caused by too much exposure to the sun is damaging to your skin.

Experts now agree that 15 to 20 minutes of unprotected sun exposure, outside the dangerous 11am to 3pm time, per day is sufficient to produce the required vitamin D levels.
